Dr Michael Merrett has cared for patients across the bayside and peninsula communities for close to two decades, building a reputation for high-quality, patient-focused Gastroenterology care. He retired from clinical practice on 1 May 2026.
A highly experienced Gastroenterologist, Dr Merrett completed his specialist GI training in Melbourne before being awarded the PHH Travelling Scholarship, which took him to Oxford University (UK) for advanced training and research within the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Unit. There he further developed his expertise in advanced GI Endoscopy and contributed to research published in leading international journals including Gut, Gastroenterology and the European Journal of Gastroenterology, with work presented at conferences across Australia, Europe and the USA.
Over many years he held respected public appointments including Visiting Gastroenterologist at Monash Medical Centre and Head of Unit at Frankston Public Hospital within the Peninsula Network.
We thank Dr Merrett for the care he gave to thousands of patients, and for the trust he built with referring GPs over so many years.
Continuing your care
Dr Merrett arranged a handover of his practice to Dr Owen McKay, who covered the rooms during his leave in recent years, and Dr Phil Ha. Both are accepting new referrals.
